About the Seamstress

Hey, I'm Kritter.

My early years were spent playing by my mother's feet as she sewed everything from curtains to theater costumes.  My sister and I spent much of the 70s in matching handmade outfits (you can well imagine).  The house was often times crowded with giggling bridal parties having their dresses fitted.

My first dive into sewing was to make clothes for my Star Wars action figures. Very tiny clothes.  Later, as a teenager I was determined to go against the trends so I created sloppy punk outfits.  My favorite fashion decade is the 60s, so in my early twenties I started searching thrift stores for patterns and dresses Agent 99 and Mary Tyler Moore would be proud of.

With the rise of vintage boutiques in the 90s it became more difficult to find affordable treasures.  However, I could still find items made with vintage fabric and turn them into something new with an vintage style.  That was good for my wallet and the environment.

Today, I continue to be inspired by the many fabric artists sharing ideas online, wardrobe collections from series such as Mrs. Maisel and the Queen's Gambit, and scrolling through image searches related to mod styles.
